We are currently recruiting for an experienced HSE Manager at Cricket Valley Energy Center in Dover Plains, NY. Cricket Valley is a state-of-the-art 1100MW, 3x1x1 GE 7FA.05 combined cycle facility with Alstom HRSG’s and Steam Turbines. This position is responsible for coordinating, implementing, and supporting Cricket Valley process Health & Safety and Environmental programs and overall facility Compliance matters. Candidate should be able to support plant management team with strategic HSE planning and program development to further improve plant's HSE performance. The position report’s to the Facility Manager and is supported by the Corporate HSE Group.

Job Responsibilities

  • Includes the following: other duties may be assigned as needed:
  • Coordinate and manage the implementation of EEG's HSE policies and procedures.
  • Hold the role as Compliance Manager to oversee reporting to agencies for all Safety and Environmental compliance items.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of the Plant's HSE programs and update as necessary to meet applicable regulations and/or corporate directives.
  • Manage the environmental and safety compliance program to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations.
  • Review, update, and train Plant employees on applicable Plant emergency response plans, spill prevention plans, fire prevention plans, risk management plans, storm water pollution prevention plans, environmental compliance and other site-specific HSE plans and programs.
  • Communicate with regulatory agencies as necessary to address environmental reporting, deviations, and notices of non-compliance and be compliant on quarterly and yearly reports.
  • Coordinate and/or perform required environmental reporting and testing activities and ensure that required environmental programs and permits are properly implemented and that the Plant maintains full compliance with all permits.
  • Ensure that quarterly Plant safety inspections and periodic environmental program reviews are performed, and corrective actions are implemented in a timely manner.
  • Conduct and coordinate injury and near-miss investigations and generate related reports focusing on the root cause and ensuring that corrective measures are identified and implemented.
  • Interface with EEG's management team to assist in developing and implementing Plant annual HSE plans, goals, and strategies for improving safety and environmental performance.
  • Conduct, manage and track required safety and environmental related training of plant employees through third-party computer-based software and other facility training records.
  • Continually promote Safety and Environmental issues which affect the site.
  • Chair of the site Joint Health and Safety Committee.
  • Maintain all required HSE and medical screening records as required by applicable regulations and/or EEG procedures.
  • Review, analyze and evaluate plant chemistry and environmental data. Provide oversight and direction to station environmental compliance programs.
  • Gather samples, organize, and work with outside laboratories to get analyses completed. Be able to generate reports and recommendations from these analyses.
  • Operate testing equipment and conduct and/or manage scheduled chemistry, environmental and performance testing as needed. Be able to generate reports and recommendations from this Testing. If testing is conducted by a contractor review and approve reports.
  • Maintain the facility Chemistry Laboratory QA/QC Program and Chemical Hygiene Plan.
  • Maintain professional affiliations with safety and environmental organizations and other HSE professionals to keep current with new environmental and safety regulations and good management practices.
  • A working knowledge of current environmental regulations in all media is desired and familiarity with the regulatory process on the local, state, and federal level along with the ability to read and interpret regulations is essential.
  • Strive to improve HSE skills and knowledge through continuing education and training.

Required Skills / Knowledge

  • Strong communication and willingness to have a hands-on approach is required.
  • Candidate must have demonstrated knowledge of environmental laws and regulations, including Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, RCRA, CERCLA, prevention, project management, computer, and communication skills.


  • A minimum of five years of relevant experience is required for this position.
  • Experience working in a power plant or in an industrial facility is preferred.
  • Must have demonstrated knowledge of environmental and safety regulations, accident/injury prevention, computer, and communication skills.
  • Ability to deal with complex safety situations is required.
  • Must be a self-starter with a high degree of initiative and ability to work both independently and within a team.
  • Position requires periods of intense physical exertion, including walking, climbing, and lifting.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • This position supports the facility. As such, frequent travel is not a core requirement; however, the candidate should be able to perform minimal travel as necessary.
  • A demonstrated track record in implementing corporate HSE policies and procedures and/or developing and implementing site-level HSE procedures.

Education Requirements

  • A four-year degree or commensurate experience/professional training is required as well as a demonstrated track record in developing, implementing, and maintaining health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures in an industrial setting.

Physical Requirements

  • Position requires periods of intense physical exertion, including walking, climbing, and lifting.
  • Ability to lift and move material up to 40 pounds
  • Ability to climb and perform a function up to a 12-ft ladder.
