Operation and Maintenance Technician

Job Responsibilities

• Competently operates and maintains the simple cycle power generating facility and its equipment with minimal guidance or assistance.
• Keeps plant management and/or LOMT fully informed of unusual plant conditions and current job progress as the job relates to facility operations when assigned on-shift.
• Proficient at troubleshooting and diagnosing mechanical problems with the ability to apply a resolution in a timely fashion.
• Proficient at repairing, replacing, dismantling and inspecting defective plant equipment and parts such as pumps, valves, fans, gearboxes, compressors, and turbine components.
• Identify and resolve CEMS problems when they arise. Assist in daily calibrations and gas bottle change outs.
• Capable of setting up and operating a drill press, pipe threading machine, grinder and other various tools to make and repair parts and equipment.
• Carryout daily shift rounds of reading plant telemetry, meters, gauges, or automatic devices to record data such as thermocouples, RTD’s, accelerometers, counters, and fluid levels.
• Maintains equipment by completing routine preventative and corrective maintenance activities via the plant CMMS system. Cleaning, replacing, oiling and lubricating other component parts and equipment as required.
• Responsible for the daily water chemistry and data analysis used to verify daily operating conditions in order to meet OEM requirements.
• Assist with performing Root Cause Analysis reports on critical equipment failures.
• Reads, understands, and complies with all Facility safety programs, regulatory procedures, and all plant environmental permits.
• Responsible for opening and closing all low, medium and high voltage circuit breakers as required for proper system operation and electrical isolation.
• Coordinates purchasing with the O&M Manger and vendors to achieve timely repair of plant equipment.
• Oversees and manages capital investment projects as assigned by the Facility Manager or designee.
• Assist with the development of Operations and Maintenance procedures, current and future.
• Performs clean-up activities of all site spaces as directed by Facility Manager or designee.
• Operate heavy equipment such as a man lift and/or forklift to support daily operations.
• Must be able to work a 12-hour rotating DuPont Shift Schedule.
• Must be available for shift coverage, call-ins and overtime on an as needed basis, or as directed by the Facility Manager or designee.

Required Skills / Knowledge

• Demonstrate knowledge of power plant operations in all capacities.
• Demonstrate the ability to make competent decisions in highly demanding situations.
• Capable of writing operating procedures, work orders, and purchase requests.
• Demonstrate the ability to read and interpret cut sheets, mechanical P&ID’s, electrical one-lines, ladder logic and block diagrams, and technical manuals.
• Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Adept mechanical, instrumentation and electrical knowledge.
• Strong leadership, technical and administrative skills.

Experience

• Minimum of two (2) years of directly related work experience is required.

Education Requirements

• A High School diploma or equivalent.
• An Associate Degree (AA) or higher from a two-year college or technical school is preferred. Education in power generation, mechanical maintenance, electrical maintenance or instrumentation and controls is a plus.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to reach, climb, crouch and lifting up to 50 pounds is required.
• Must be able to work a 12-hour rotating DuPont Shift Schedule.
• Must be available for shift coverage, call-ins and overtime on an as needed basis, or as directed by the Facility Manager or designee.
