The Plant Tech (Operations) operates, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs and is responsible for work associated with the operation and maintenance of the Ironwood combined cycle generating facility. The Plant Tech will attend, operation, maintain and observe the operation of all site equipment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Observes operating conditions of all site equipment as reflected by instruments, gauges, controls and visual observations.
  • Makes adjustment as necessary to make certain equipment is operating properly and places equipment in service and removes equipment from service as required or as directed.
  • Synchronizes generators and controls generating equipment.
  • Controls and switch power supply to all auxiliaries and station buses of various voltages.
  • Maintains all site equipment as directed. This includes but is not limited to testing, lubricating, cleaning, diagnosing, troubleshooting and making repairs.
  • Performs switching and blocking required by permits on site equipment.
  • Takes periodic readings reflecting performance of site equipment, records data in appropriate logs or log books, runs required tests, interprets results and makes necessary corrections.
  • Monitors and maintains cycle water chemistry.
  • Performs or assist in replacing, dismantling, repair and reassembly of site equipment.
  • Receives and unloads materials, bulk chemicals, tools, equipment and supplies.
  • Operates and maintains equipment and vehicles such as fixed cranes and lifts, fork lifts, aerial devices/man lifts up to 75 feet and trucks.
  • Performs, preventive, predictive and reactive maintenance activities.
  • Maintains all plan facilities and work areas of a clean and professional manner.
  • Performs such other related duties as assigned or as necessary.
  • Special projects as assigned

Required Skills / Knowledge

  • Demonstrates knowledge of all facets of power plant operations.
  • Demonstrates the ability to make competent decisions in emergent situations.
  • Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel and Word.
  • Demonstrates the ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical one-lines, logic drawings, technical manuals and P&ID's.
  • Will write routine reports, solve practical problems, and clearly communicate tasks and needs, and training of other personnel.
  • Mechanical, instrumentation and electrical equipment knowledge is required.
  • Adept at troubleshooting and diagnosing problems with mechanical equipment with the ability to apply a resolution in a timely fashion.
  • Proficient at Water Chemistry.

Experience

  • Two to four years related experience and/or training; or a combination of experience and/or education preferred.

Education Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associates Degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college to technical school preferred.
  • Must successfully pass the EEI (Edison Electric Institute) Combo POSS B exam

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to do walking, reaching, climbing, and lifting (up to 50 pounds).
  • Must be willing to work a 12-hour rotating shift and be available to work for call-ins and work overload as needed.
