We are currently recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support of Steam turbine business in Leominster, MA (fully remote will be considered) This is an exciting opportunity to work in a design organization that can provide exposure to all aspects of steam turbine design. We are looking for an engineer that has a firm grasp on the practical application of the engineering fundamentals and has the drive to pursue individual expertise and expand knowledge in the field of steam turbine design. You must be a proactive self-starter and thrive in a fast pace working environment where teamwork is essential to achieve success. Specifically, we have a need for a senior mechanical engineer in the Steam Turbine Product Development group.

Job Responsibilities

A focus on the mechanical design of rotating blades for steam turbines, including stress and frequency calculations and material selection. Closely working with production engineering during concurrent design/production in order to meet both technical and schedule requirements for projects.
General design/analysis of steam turbine components such as rotors, diaphragms, casings, bolting, miscellaneous hardware etc.
Support manufacturing shops with technical advice, co-operative problem solving, disposition of product deviations, and follow through on requests for design improvements.
Lead cross functional and multi-disciplinary design activities for steam turbine modifications, upgrades, rerates etc.
Work closely with manufacturing to ensure cost effective design solutions for aftermarket products and services.
Provide technical support for new service orders including potential travel to customer sites, suppliers, and manufacturing sites to resolve technical issues, support reversal activity, and support sales/marketing efforts.
Strong background in the practical application of mechanical engineering fundamentals is a requirement.
Work with junior engineers to provide training and mentoring.
Presentation of technical designs/results to both internal and external customers.

Required Skills / Knowledge

It is necessary to be able to communicate effectively with management, customers, suppliers and manufacturing personnel including the ability to write clear instructions, specifications and reports.
Effective presentation skills are a must.
The ideal candidate will be a proactive self-starter, effective at solving problems with minimal guidance.

Experience

Minimum 5 Years of experience in a mechanical design/analysis role in the turbomachinery industry.
Experience in production support in an engineering role
Supplemental education or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanics of Materials, Dynamic Analysis and thermodynamics is desired. Additional training in Failure Analysis, Structural Analysis (FEA), Fracture Mechanics, Vibration Analysis, Solid Modeling, Metals Joining and Non-Destructive Examination

Education Requirements

Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering
