Mechanical Engineer

Job Responsibilities

• Develop and implement part inspection criteria including critical-to-quality requirements.
• Provide timely engineering advice and support to workshop inspectors on part non-destructive testing, part measurement and part disposition.
• Review and approve part concessions in accordance with good engineering practices and impact analysis methodologies.
• Review and disposition parts during weekly Material Review Board meetings.
• Design and implement custom measurement tooling.
• Technically qualify new vendors and confirm current vendors are executing work in accordance with fixed repair and manufacturing processes.
• Act as a technical first point of contact for vendors in support of quality, delivery and cost objectives.
• Develop and implement part repair solutions so as to deliver appropriately cost-effective repair solutions.
• Implement manufacturing designs (created by others) and lead the first article validation process with vendors.
• Address internal and vendor Non-Conformance Reports (NCR) and implement technical corrective and preventative actions in a timely manner.
• Participate in complex root cause investigations and implement corrective and preventative solutions.
• Author technical reports including equipment and customer reports.
• Comply with company and local HSE requirements through both own actions and through encouraging others.

Required Skills / Knowledge

• Detailed understanding of key engineering disciplines within the field of high speed rotational machinery, and be able to apply the required level of competence in part inspection and disposition, part repair, and part manufacture.
• Strong understanding of gas turbines repair and manufacturing techniques (including casting, forging, traditional and advanced machining, coating, welding, brazing, additive manufacturing, etc.).
• Strong understanding of non-destructive testing (ANSI certification not required), and digital and manual inspection techniques.
• Strong ability to communicate effectively and to foster meaningful relationships with internal engineers, internal customers and vendors alike.

Experience

• Five years of engineering experience in the gas turbine part repair and manufacturing field (or similar), or completion of a two year graduate rotation program.
• Experience of interpreting Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) in accordance with ASME Y14.5 very desirable.
• Experience of blue light scanning and digital inspection software beneficial.
• Detailed knowledge of the Solar range of gas turbines very desirable.
• Root Cause Analysis experience desirable.
• Familiarity of API 616, 684 and 687 beneficial.

Education Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in relevant engineering discipline.
• Professional engineering license (Professional Engineer, Chartered Engineer or equivalent) beneficial but not required.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work in an office environment and a workshop environment.
• Ability to travel to vendors throughout North America and occasionally in Europe.
• Ability to lift up to 50lb.
