We are currently recruiting for an Instrumentation & Controls Technician at our Baton Rouge, La Power Plant. The Instrumental & Controls Technician position is responsible for the following: repair, adjust, and calibrate equipment of steam-generating power plant; maintain continuous emission system; inspect, test, adjust, and repair electronic, mechanical, and pneumatic instruments; and perform other duties as required.

Job Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoots all instrumentation and control systems
  • Maintains, calibrates, programs, and monitors Digital Control System (DCS), environmental analyzers and equipment, transmitters, electronic equipment, lab analyzers, sensor loops, solenoids, transducers, and controllers.
  • Maintains documentation of all repairs, calibrations, control points, alarm, and trip points of each piece of equipment. Prepares schematic drawings, sketches, and reports to reflect changes made in instruments, circuits, and systems.
  • Conducts environmental regulatory tests and prepares reports.
  • Assists other departments in the overhaul of gas and steam turbine generators, boilers, pumps, motors, and other equipment. Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Tests accuracy of flowmeters, pressure gauges, temperature indicators, controllers, and other recording, indicating or controlling instruments to locate defective components in system.
  • Uses test equipment such as pressure gauges, mercury manometers, potentiometers, pulse and signal generators, oscilloscopes, transistor curve tracers, ammeters, voltmeters, and watt meters.
  • Removes defective instruments from system, and decontaminates, disassembles, and cleans instruments.
  • Interprets maintenance and repair manuals.
  • Contributes to team by working effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
  • Provides and maintains safe and clean work area.

Required Skills / Knowledge

  • Instrumentation & Electrical school education preferred.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Must have an understanding of 40CFR Part 75 and Part 60 environmental regulations.
  • May be required to operate a fork lift and similar equipment.
  • Reads understands and complies with all regulatory and facility safety procedures


  • Three (3) years or more of Instrumentation experience in an industrial or military environment where daily tasks include troubleshooting, repairing and installing automatic control valves, transmitters, field sensing devices, and DCS’s (Digital Control System)
  • Experience reading technical drawings and electrical and pneumatic schematics

Education Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required. Associates degree or bachelor’s degree in Industrial Electronics, Electronic Instrumentation, or equivalent engineering studies is preferred
  • Instrumentation & Electrical school education preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Willing and able to work ten (10) shifts, overtime, holidays and weekends as needed.
  • Willing and able to work in a loud/noisy, hot/cold, humid and greasy environment.
  • Must be able to pass physical.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
