We are seeking an experienced Service Engineer with a background in steam turbine design or repairs to join our growing Engineering team. This is a remote full-time position with preference to candidates in Houston, TX.

As a Service Engineer, you will play a vital role in providing Engineering dispositions and solutions to EthosEnergy’s steam turbine Operations teams, both in the shop and in the field.
In this role, you will support incoming technical queries from the Field Service, Shop Operations, and Sales/Commercial teams, building relationships with internal and external stakeholders to strengthen our market presence and uphold our commitment to excellence and innovation. Additionally, your experience will provide an essential perspective into the design work of Steam Central Engineering projects including overhauls, component repairs, replacements, redesigns, and re-rate solutions.

Dimensions/Scope

• Service Engineers need a firm understanding of engineering based problem solving in order to apply those principles to their investigations. Their jobs require attention to detail and critical thinking, as well as the ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing, for the purposes of gathering information, reporting their findings and communicating results to Customers.

• Expected travel up to 50%

Job Responsibilities

  • Support of repair shop activity specifically with steam turbine components. Working directly with the on-site Repair Engineers assist in evaluation of inspection findings and recommendations for customers to return their equipment to service. Successful candidates will have experience/knowledge of steam turbine components, materials, repair and production processes as well and working closely with both shop engineering and core engineering personnel to ensure a quality product/service is achieved.
  • Support of field service activities and work directly with union, non-union and 3rd party field engineers and supervisors to review, advise and recommend corrective actions in support of opening/closing activities at customer site. A solid understanding of startup processes and procedures is also necessary to evaluate and support field/customer challenges such as vibration issues.
  • Support global manufacturing shops with technical advice, co-operative problem solving, disposition of product deviations, and follow through on requests for design improvements.
  • General design/analysis of steam turbine components such as rotors, diaphragms, casings, bolting, miscellaneous hardware etc.
  • Support design reviews for turbine modifications/upgrades and re-rates by providing field and shop critical input for project success.
  • Provide technical support for new service orders including potential travel to customer sites, suppliers, and manufacturing sites to resolve technical issues, support reversal activity, and support sales/marketing efforts.
  • Strong background in the practical application of mechanical engineering fundamentals is a requirement.
  • Work with junior engineers to provide training and mentoring
  • Presentation of technical corrective actions to both internal and external customers.
  • It is necessary to be able to communicate effectively with management, customers, suppliers and manufacturing personnel including the ability to write clear instructions, specifications and reports. Effective presentation skills are a must. The ideal candidate will be a proactive self-starter, effective at solving problems with minimal guidance.

Required Skills / Knowledge

  • Experience in troubleshooting/evaluating and recommending successful corrective actions for customers specific to steam turbines as it pertains to installation/alignment/startup/commissioning.
  • Familiarity with OEM design, alignment and clearances
  • Experience with in-service rotor condition repair/replace assessment for diaphragms, rotors and blades/buckets
  • Experience supporting field service personnel (potential for remote and on-site) during outages with ST clearance reviews, alignment technical oversight, component installation and procedure verification

Experience

  • Minimum 5-10 Years of experience in a shop/field engineering role specific to steam turbines

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering

Physical Requirements

  • Walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and talk or hear
  • Lift and move up to 50 pounds
  • 50% Travel is required
