EthosEnergy is recruiting an Operations & Maintenance Technician (Instrumentation, Controls, Electrical) for placement at an O&M facility in Gaffney, SC. This position will primarily be responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing instrumentation, controls, computers, and electrical systems at the facility. his equipment includes, but not limited to the GE 6FA Combustion Turbine Generator, GE Fitchburg Steam Turbine Generator, HRSG Boiler, and auxiliary equipment. Additionally, the role will require qualification as an Auxiliary Operator to perform additional functions.

This is a M-F, 1st shift position, but successful candidates must be willing to work rotating, 12-hour shifts and be available nights and weekends as required to support plant activities. The function must strictly adhere to all safety and environmental rules and regulations to protect employees and public safety. Applicants must have legal authorization to work in the United States for consideration.

Annual Salary Range for this position is $75,000 - $100,000 as commiserate with experience and education.

Job Responsibilities

  • Required Electrical and or I/C Functions:
  • Diagnose and repair instrument and control system malfunctions including programmable logic controllers (PLC’s), distributive control systems (DCS), instrument loops, flow meters, transmitters, pressure transducers, temperature probes, and level probes.
  • Diagnose and repair electric and electric system control malfunctions of equipment such as transformers, electric motors, motor controls, relays, switches, transmitters, generator monitoring and controls systems, low, medium, and high voltage distribution systems and monitoring devices.
  • Installation of new electrical circuitry and equipment as required.
  • Properly uses electrical test equipment and other similar hand tools.
  • Perform the maintenance of equipment including predictive maintenance, preventative maintenance and corrective maintenance.
  • Procurement of parts, materials, and services from an approved vendor base as needed. Write, submit and complete corrective work orders for approval.
  • Coordinate with and direct outside contractors as required to ensure completion of maintenance activities.
  • Open and close circuit breakers as required for proper system operation and electrical isolation.
  • Follow safe electrical practices, install grounding on high and medium voltage systems for safe equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to perform 480V and medium voltage switchgear basic electrical system maintenance and troubleshooting (consistent with EthosEnergy electrical safety practices) and or supervise outside contractors in the performance of such work, including the development of work scope and bid analysis.
  • Ability to perform routine generator electrical system tests and inspections to the extent qualified and or supervise an outside contractor as required.
  • Terminate motor, transformer and generator connections in accordance with industry standards utilizing appropriate tapes, heat shrink, connectors and other materials.
  • Perform annual instrument calibrations as part of the electrical and instrumentation team.
  • Repair, rebuild, troubleshoot and calibrate valves, valve actuators, controllers and positioners.
  • Perform basic IT functions including computer troubleshooting, terminations, patching and configuration. Printer and copier troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Use facility operating procedures and equipment technical manuals to maintain and repair facility equipment and ensure equipment is operated within designed parameters.
  • Fully support the use of a Computerized Maintenance Management System (Maximo)
  • Perform CMMS data entry and work order close-out in a thorough and timely fashion.
  • Maintain equipment by tightening fittings, replacing valve packing, gaskets, valves, and gauges while cleaning, replacing, oiling and lubricating other component parts and equipment as required.
  • Perform capital project and/or major repair responsibilities as assigned by the Facility Management.
  • Repair and or replace defective parts along with the diagnostic examination of mechanical, electrical and operational malfunctions/failures of equipment and components.
  • Read, understand and comply with all regulatory and facility safety procedures.
  • Work overtime, or irregular hours as needed to support reliable operation of the facility.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of all areas of the plant.
  • May be required to operate a forklift and similar heavy equipment. Required Power Plant Operational Functions:
  • Competently operate and maintain the combined cycle power generating facility equipment with minimal guidance or assistance.
  • Read meters, gauges, or automatic devices to record equipment operating data.
  • Perform water chemistry analysis to verify operating conditions ensuring proper control ranges. Adjusts water chemistry by controlling chemical feed and/or blow down rates.
  • Keeps Lead OMT (Control Room Operator) on shift fully informed of unusual conditions and current job progress as the job relates to facility operations.
  • Perform routine inspections, PMs and reliability checks on facility equipment.
  • Start and stop equipment, open and close valves in the facility as directed by and in coordination with the LOMT on shift.

Required Skills / Knowledge

  • Reads understands and complies with all facility safety, environmental and regulatory procedures.
  • Ability to read, interpret and understand P&IDs, Elementary Electrical, One-Lines and other system related drawings and diagrams.
  • Ability to read, interpret, understand, configure and change DCS and PLC ladder and function block logic.
  • Demonstrate a proficient knowledge and skill in the use of electrical test equipment (meters, calibrations tools, meggers, etc.)
  • Demonstrate a proficient knowledge of AC/DC electrical systems.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must work competently alone and in team environments.

Experience

  • Five (5)+ years instrumentation, controls and electrical experience in an industrial environment with the ability to demonstrate journeyman level knowledge.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to function in a team environment.
  • A bonus if candidate possess experience with ABB (Bailey) DCS, GE Mark V (MKV) turbine controls, GE Mark VIe (MKVIe) turbine controls, or Allen Bradley PLCs.
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management system (Maximo).
  • Power generation facility experience.

Education Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Electronics, Electronic Instrumentation, or equivalent engineering studies and at least two (2) years' experience in an industrial environment preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Stand, walk, use hands and fingers dexterously to operate tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel crouch, or crawl, and communicate orally.
  • Vision abilities required.
  • Sitting for extended periods may be required.
  • The employee must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be physically capable of ascending and descending structural stairways and portable ladders.
