Maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs mechanical power station equipment. This equipment includes, but is not limited to gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, heat recovery steam generators, condensers, fans, air compressors, water treatment equipment, demineralizers, motors, pumps, diesel generators, and other auxiliary equipment. Strictly adheres to all safety and environmental rules and regulations to protect employees and public safety.

Job Responsibilities

  • Includes, but not limited to, the following. Other duties may be assigned by Facility Management as needed:
  • Uses facility operating procedures and equipment technical manuals to perform corrective and preventative mechanical maintenance on combined cycle facility equipment
  • Performs oxyacetylene cutting, shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) and Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), including layout and fitup
  • Performs rotating equipment alignment using precision tools
  • Removes, cleans, inspects and installs sliding surface and rolling contact bearings with fixed or adjustable running clearances.
  • Disassembles, inspects, repairs, adjusts and assembles valves requiring only lapping, part replacement, cleaning and packing replacement.
  • Opens, inspects, overhauls pumps and gearboxes
  • Cuts, fits and installs threaded pipe, valves and fittings
  • Develops rigging plans and performs rigging using safe work practices
  • Perform simple machining tasks utilizing maintenance shop equipment such as lathes, milling machines, drill presses, surface grinders, etc
  • Operates mobile lifting equipment, including forklifts and man baskets
  • Reads, understands and complies with all regulatory and facility safety procedures
  • Strictly adherences to Lock Out Tag Out procedures
  • Maintains a high standard of workplace housekeeping during job execution and leaves jobsite in pristine condition
  • Supports and maintains excellent communications with the Operations department
  • Keeps Maintenance Manager fully informed of unusual conditions and current job progress as the job relates to facility operations.
  • Fully utilizes the facility’s Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and embraces the facility maintenance philosophy.
  • Planning ahead for work order execution including ordering parts
  • Interfaces and occasionally performs QA/QC with contractors to ensure satisfactory performance
  • Enters appropriately detailed work order history and close-out in a timely fashion
  • Shows diligence in documenting spare parts usage and re-ordering
  • Diagnoses cause of equipment malfunction/failure, assists in root cause analysis
  • Responsibly utilizes warehouse, checking out materials ensuring accurate inventory
  • Works overtime shifts, or irregular hours as needed to support reliable operation of the facility.

Required Skills / Knowledge

  • Demonstrates knowledge of all facets of combined cycle power plant maintenance
  • Possess certified welding qualifications is preferred
  • Capable of writing procedures, work requests, purchase requisitions, and work plans
  • Demonstrates the ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, technical manuals and P&ID's, write routine reports, solve practical problems
  • Mechanical, instrumentation and basic electrical equipment knowledge is required
  • Demonstrates a basic knowledge of power plant operations
  • Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with utilizing a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Self-motivated to work alone without direct supervision.
  • Must have a working knowledge of the safe use of tools used for routine repairs
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting and systems interaction abilities and work experience
  • Must demonstrate a questioning attitude to learn

Experience

  • Minimum of five (5) years experience as a mechanic in a power producing utility or other process related industry, including but not limited to paper-mill industry, chemical and petroleum-chemical industry or military experience in any branch of the United States Armed Services applicable to the above.

Education Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associates Degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to occasionally lift weights up to 50 pounds as well as perform heavy physical work.
  • Work shift hours, overtime, and irregular hours as needed to support reliable operation of the facility. From time to time the working hours will be determined on short notice based on plant requirements.
