Delivering Multi-Million Dollar Asset Support to Spirit Energy

Project Overview

Since 2018, EthosEnergy has been a trusted independent service partner (ISP) to Spirit Energy Production UK (Spirit Energy) delivering comprehensive gas turbine maintenance and support for a fleet of gas compression packages located across the Irish Sea.

In 2025, this relationship was further strengthened through a significant contract expansion, securing EthosEnergy’s long-term service agreement support until end of field life, currently projected as 2030.

This multi-million-dollar agreement ensures continued delivery of embedded engineering services, gas turbine life extension strategies, and obsolescence management for critical offshore compression assets. The contract not only secures long-term operational continuity for the customer, but also provides enhanced cost certainty and equipment reliability in a maturing oil and gas basin.

The Challenge

One of the primary challenges was the growing pressure to reduce operational costs in a declining oil and gas basin. Spirit Energy required a substantial reduction in maintenance expenditure to ensure the continued viability of its late-life gas turbine assets in the Irish Sea.
Alongside this was the need to develop a robust end-of-life asset management strategy. The objective was to maximize equipment life and achieve gas turbine life extension while avoiding large-scale capital expenditure, all without compromising on operational availability or safety.

Equipment obsolescence was another key concern. Spirit Energy needed an independent service partner capable of proactively managing ageing gas compression equipment and offering flexible solutions, without defaulting to costly OEM upgrade pathways, which often favour new sales over long-term value.

Finally, with EthosEnergy having supported the offshore compression assets since 2018, their team was deeply embedded in day-to-day operations. Any change in gas turbine service provider would have posed a serious risk to continuity, with significant potential for lost asset knowledge and disruption to ongoing maintenance operations.

The EthosEnergy Solution

EthosEnergy responded with a tailored gas turbine service strategy aligned to Spirit Energy’s long-term cost reduction and performance optimization goals.

A key element of this strategy was the extension of time between overhauls (TBO) by refining maintenance schedules and moving to a condition-based maintenance approach - relying on fired hours rather than set calendar intervals. This reduced the frequency of major maintenance events, supported by advanced turbine coatings, revised engineering risk assessments, and a deeper insight into gas compression equipment performance.

To avoid unnecessary capital expenditure, EthosEnergy provided proactive obsolescence management, enabling legacy gas turbine equipment to keep operating without costly OEM upgrade paths.

The delivery model centred on a fully embedded engineering team providing 24/7 support, working both onshore and offshore. This resource was seamlessly integrated into the customer’s operations, providing consistent, expert support and maintaining deep asset knowledge developed over years of collaboration. The team worked closely with Spirit Energy’s internal teams and vendor network to identify and prioritize the cost-saving initiatives with the greatest potential. These were then formally committed to, offering clarity and accountability.

Trust and technical expertise underpinned every aspect of the partnership. Through strong communication and a proven ability to problem-solve professionally, EthosEnergy earned the trust that ultimately led to the contract’s expansion.

Key Results
