Enhanced compressor services with strategic engineering

Evolving a pre-existing relationship

For many years, EthosEnergy has maintained a strong relationship with Repsol Resources UK Ltd. (RRUK), built upon a long-term turbine maintenance contract that covers eight onshore and offshore assets, for which EthosEnergy is responsible for power generation.

Recently, we’ve expanded our service offering to RRUK to include comprehensive compressor support providing them with greater choice and proven solutions as an alternative to the OEM.

Maintaining a positive relationship with long-term customers is crucial, and it requires us to be relentless and nimble to continue providing value in our service offerings while remaining competitive within a demanding marketplace.

Brexit-based complications

RRUK approached EthosEnergy with a need for a comprehensive overhaul and health check of a compressor bundle operating in the North Sea on the Bleo Holm FPSO. This particular bundle had been out of operation for some time and was being kept in storage.

The main challenge wasn’t just ensuring that the compressor bundle was fit for purpose, but managing the logistics and component sources in a post-Brexit world — due to the complexities in transportation and parts availability that Britain leaving the EU has caused.

Our OneEthos approach

Demonstrating our OneEthos approach, EthosEnergy leveraged cross-location support between our bases in Aberdeen, UK, and Enschede, the Netherlands.

To ensure an efficient process for the client, our experienced Project Management Operations (PMO) team worked closely with the Compressor Inquiry to Order (ITO) and Field Service Operations (FSO) teams, both of which had previous experience conducting field service overhauls and inspections.

It’s thanks to EthosEnergy’s ability to work under the OneEthos approach and utilise other facilities and workforce expertise that ensures we can provide the best service.

Engineering solutions for compliance and efficiency

Working together, the EthosEnergy team promptly assembled a proposal for this new project.

To meet RRUK’s specific needs, we proposed solutions such as facilitating the shipping of parts between the UK and the Netherlands and manufacturing a dummy coupling hub to replace the unavailable original — a common solution for such issues.

This dummy hub would help ensure compliance with API guidelines, while maintaining the integrity of the compressor during the balancing process.

Throughout the process, a C-7510/20 compressor bundle was made available for the Bleo Holm FPSO should any unplanned failure occur — underpinning EthosEnergy’s commitment to covering all bases.

A compressor bundle back in action

The project was a success, with the compressor bundle being fully refurbished, inspected, and certified as ready for operation. The project was completed on time, within the planned budget, and without the need for any major repairs – reducing potential costs and downtime for RRUK.

The proactive approach to accommodating logistical challenges and the ability to provide a tailored engineering solution showcased EthosEnergy’s capabilities in handling complex compressor service demands.

This project shows EthosEnergy’s dedication to innovative solutions and client-centric services. With our OneEthos approach and our ever-lasting commitment to our values and behaviours, we can continue to deliver exceptional value and support within the oil and gas industry.
